Abstract:

The main purpose of the present work is the synthesis and characterization of a new inorganic ion exchanger of a three-component system, namely cerium (IV)iodomolybdate. Cerium (IV) iodomolybdate was prepared successfully by coprecipitation using the optimum reagent ratios. The structural and morphological properties of the optimised exchanger, cerium (IV) iodomolybdate, were studied by SEM-EDS, XRD and FT-IR. To evaluate its functional value, researchers determined its cation exchange capacity by column and pH titration methods. In addition, researchers performed distribution coefficient experiments in distilled water to further validate the results. The material also showed high chemical stability in very acidic, neutral and basic environments. For practical environmental applications, researchers have explored dye uptake from wastewater, and batch testing was the method of choice for this particular topic. The researchers tested several contact times, exchanger dosages, and initial dye concentrations to determine the efficacy of the dye removalprocess. The results show that cerium (IV) iodomolybdate-based ion exchangers have strong ion-exchange performance and excellent thermal and chemical stability, as well as repeatability. This material is highly selective for toxic heavy metals and an excellent dye adsorbent, with tremendous potential for developing innovative technologies for environmental remediation. This is a fantastic potential.
