Abstract:

This study examines research trends and identifies deficiencies in multicultural civic education through a systematic literature review. The PRISMA framework was used to ensure transparency, consistency, and methodological rigour during the article selection process. Researchers got data from three big academic databases: Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Researchers reviewed papers published from 2020 to 2025. A preliminary collection of 120 articles was established, and subsequent application of screening and eligibility criteria resulted in the selection of 30 pertinent studies for final analysis. The results show three main research trends in the field. First, digital technologies are becoming more common in civic education, making it easier for people to access and get involved. Second, there has been a rise in the use of project-based and experiential learning methods, which encourage students to be active participants and gain practical knowledge. Third, cultural literacy and local knowledge are emphasised, demonstrating the importance of culturally relevant teaching. Despite these improvements, research has gaps. Few longitudinal studies of long-term results, few experimental approaches for efficacy validation, and few digital learning environments incorporate local cultural values. This comprehensive synthesis of research provides valuable insights for developing more inclusive, evidence-based, and contextually relevant models of multicultural civic education.
